Role overview

The Chief Engineer is a key member of the engine department on a Container Ship, responsible for the overall maintenance and operation of the vessel's engines and associated equipment. This role requires strong technical knowledge and leadership skills to manage a team of engineers. The Chief Engineer will work closely with the captain and other crew members to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the vessel.

The Chief Engineer's day-to-day duties will include overseeing routine maintenance, troubleshooting and repairing engine problems, and managing fuel consumption and emissions. The Chief Engineer will also be responsible for training and supervising junior engineers and ensuring that all engine department personnel are following safety procedures and protocols. Additionally, the Chief Engineer will maintain accurate records of engine performance and maintenance activities.
