The Chief Engineer is a key member of the engine department on a Container Ship, responsible for the overall maintenance and operation of the vessel's main engine and auxiliary systems. The Chief Engineer will work closely with the captain and other department heads to ensure safe and efficient operation of the vessel.
The Chief Engineer's day-to-day duties include planning and executing maintenance and repair work, managing fuel consumption and optimizing engine performance, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations. The Chief Engineer will also be responsible for training and supervising junior engineers and coordinating with shore-based teams to resolve technical issues. Additionally, the Chief Engineer will conduct regular inspections and monitoring of engine systems to prevent breakdowns and minimize downtime.

Requirements
- OKA valid Chief Engineer's STCW certificate of competency is required.
- OKA minimum of 2 years of experience as a Chief Engineer on a similar type of vessel is necessary.
- OKA strong understanding of engine maintenance and repair procedures is essential.
- OKExcellent leadership and communication skills are required to manage a team of engineers.
- OKA high school diploma or equivalent is required, with a degree in marine engineering or a related field preferred.
