Role overview

The Chief Engineer is a key member of the engine department on our oil tanker vessels, responsible for the overall maintenance and operation of the ship's engines and related systems. This role requires strong technical knowledge and leadership skills to manage a team of engineers. The Chief Engineer will work closely with the Captain and other senior officers to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the vessel.

The Chief Engineer's day-to-day duties include overseeing routine maintenance and repairs, managing fuel consumption and emissions, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations. The Chief Engineer will also be responsible for training and supervising junior engineers and coordinating with shore-based teams to plan and execute maintenance and repair work. Additionally, the Chief Engineer will participate in safety drills and emergency response procedures to ensure the vessel is prepared for any situation.

  • A valid Chief Engineer's certificate of competency (CoC) issued by a recognized maritime authority is required.
  • At least 2 years of experience as a Chief Engineer on a similar type of vessel is necessary.
  • A strong understanding of engine management systems, fuel efficiency, and emissions reduction is essential.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills are required to manage a team of engineers.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required, with a degree in marine engineering or a related field preferred.
