Role overview

The Chief Officer is a senior crew member responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the vessel. This role involves overseeing cargo operations, maintenance, and deck crew management on a bulk carrier. The Chief Officer reports directly to the Master and plays a key role in ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.

The Chief Officer's day-to-day duties include supervising cargo loading and discharging, conducting safety drills and training, and maintaining the vessel's deck and superstructure. They are also responsible for navigating the vessel during the Master's absence and performing administrative tasks such as maintaining records and reports. Additionally, the Chief Officer must be able to respond to emergencies and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations.

  • Hold a valid Chief Officer Certificate of Competency issued by a recognized maritime authority.
  • Have at least 2 years of experience as a Chief Officer on a bulk carrier or similar vessel type.
  • Possess a valid STCW certificate, including survival craft and rescue boat training.
  • Have a strong understanding of international maritime regulations, including SOLAS and MARPOL.
  • Be able to communicate effectively in English, both written and spoken.
