Role overview

The 2nd Engineer is a key member of the engine department on a Very Large Crude Carrier. This role requires a high level of technical expertise and experience with large marine diesel engines. The 2nd Engineer will assist the Chief Engineer in maintaining the vessel's machinery and systems.

The 2nd Engineer's day-to-day duties will include monitoring and maintaining engine performance, performing routine maintenance tasks, and troubleshooting issues as they arise. The 2nd Engineer will also be responsible for managing a team of junior engineers and oilers, and ensuring that all engine department tasks are completed safely and efficiently. Additionally, the 2nd Engineer will participate in drills and training exercises to ensure preparedness for emergency situations.

  • Must hold a valid Chief Engineer Officer Certificate of Competency.
  • Must have at least 2 years of experience as a 2nd Engineer on a similar type of vessel.
  • Must have a strong knowledge of marine diesel engines and associated systems.
  • Must be able to work well in a team environment and manage junior crew members.
  • Must hold a valid STCW certificate, including survival crafts and rescue boats.
