Full Definition
The IMDG Code is mandatory under SOLAS Chapter VII. It classifies dangerous goods into nine hazard classes (explosives, gases, flammable liquids, flammable solids, oxidisers, toxic substances, radioactives, corrosives, miscellaneous) and specifies packaging, marking, labelling, segregation, stowage, and emergency response. Updated in biennial amendments. Substances not listed or of unclear classification must be assessed by a competent authority before shipment.
