Tanker

A bulk-liquid cargo ship carrying oil, chemicals, liquefied gas, or other liquid commodities in integral tanks.

Tanker categories: crude oil tankers (VLCC 200,000–320,000 DWT, Suezmax ~160,000, Aframax ~80,000–120,000, Panamax ~60,000–80,000), product tankers (refined petroleum), chemical tankers (IMO Type I/II/III by hazard), LNG carriers, and LPG carriers. MARPOL mandated double-hull construction (post-Erika). Tankers require inert gas systems, crude oil washing (COW) for crude tankers, ODME, and vapour emission control. Worldscale is the standard freight rate convention.
