Vessel Profile
RMS Titanic
British Olympic-class ocean liner of the White Star Line. On her maiden voyage she struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic on 14 April 1912 and sank with the loss of more than 1,500 lives. The disaster led directly to the first International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS, 1914) and the requirement for sufficient lifeboats and a 24-hour radio watch.
