Role overview
The 2nd Engineer is a key member of the engine department on a bulk carrier, responsible for maintaining and operating the vessel's engines and associated equipment. The role requires a strong understanding of marine engineering principles and practices. The 2nd Engineer will work closely with the Chief Engineer to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the vessel.
The 2nd Engineer's day-to-day duties will include performing routine maintenance and repairs on engines and equipment, monitoring fuel consumption and optimizing energy efficiency, and supervising junior engineering staff. The 2nd Engineer will also be responsible for maintaining accurate records of maintenance and repairs, and for ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations. The 2nd Engineer will work a varied shift pattern, including night shifts and weekends.

What we look for
- A valid STCW Certificate of Competency as a 2nd Engineer.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience as a 2nd Engineer on a bulk carrier or similar vessel.
- A strong understanding of marine engineering principles and practices.
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- A valid medical certificate and a commitment to safety and environmental protection.
