The Chief Engineer will lead the engine department on a modern container ship, overseeing a crew of up to 12 ratings. You will be responsible for the overall performance, safety and efficiency of the main and auxiliary machinery throughout each voyage. The role reports directly to the Master and works closely with the operations team on shore.

Daily duties include planning and supervising maintenance, repairs and inspections of propulsion, generators and auxiliary systems. You will monitor engine performance, fuel consumption and emissions, ensuring compliance with IMO regulations. The Chief Engineer also prepares technical reports, manages spare parts inventory and conducts training drills for the engineering crew.

Requirements

  • OKSTCW 95/96 certification with Chief Engineer’s Unlimited CoC (Class 1)
  • OKMinimum 5 years experience as Chief Engineer on a container ship of 8,000 TEU or larger
  • OKProven knowledge of IMO MARPOL, ISM and ISPS codes
  • OKAbility to manage a multicultural engineering team and conduct effective training
  • OKValid seafarer’s medical certificate and drug test clearance
