Role overview

The Fitter/Welder will be part of the deck department on a Research vessel, responsible for maintaining and repairing equipment. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical systems and welding techniques. The Fitter/Welder will work closely with other crew members to ensure the vessel's equipment is in good working condition.

The Fitter/Welder's day-to-day duties will include performing repairs and maintenance on mechanical equipment, welding and fabricating parts as needed, and conducting regular inspections to identify potential issues. They will also be responsible for keeping accurate records of maintenance and repairs. Additionally, the Fitter/Welder will assist with other deck department tasks as required.
