How to Become a Merchant Navy Officer in Myanmar
Myanmar is an emerging supplier of seafarers to international shipping, with its Maritime University and a number of private training centres providing officer education. A career as a Myanmar merchant navy officer offers internationally portable qualifications, structured promotion and some of the highest entry-level earnings of any technical profession. A degree program in Nautical Science or Marine Engineering, combined with cadet sea service, leading to an STCW officer of the watch / engineer certificate.

Several Manning agent-linked private centres in Yangon provide pre-sea and upgrade courses approved by MMA.

Merchant navy officers progress through a clear rank ladder in two main departments — Deck (navigation) and Engine — plus the Electro-Technical Officer (ETO) role. Promotion depends on sea-time and higher Certificates of Competency.
