The Chief Engineer will be responsible for the overall operation, maintenance and performance of the main and auxiliary machinery on a crude oil tanker. You will ensure safe handling of cargo and compliance with all international regulations while the vessel sails between ports.

Daily duties include supervising the engine department crew, planning and executing preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting any mechanical failures that arise at sea. You will monitor fuel consumption, oil transfer systems and ballast operations, and keep detailed logs for audits. Coordination with the ship’s master and shore management on technical matters is also required.

Requirements

  • OK- Valid Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency (CoC) for tankers, STCW 2010 endorsement
  • OK- Minimum 5 years experience as Chief Engineer or senior engineer on crude oil tankers of 20,000‑40,000 dwt
  • OK- Strong knowledge of IMO MARPOL, ISM and ISPS regulations for oil carriers
  • OK- Ability to lead a team of 8‑10 engine department personnel and oversee maintenance planning
  • OK- Good command of English, both written and spoken; proficiency with engine monitoring software
